Theory:
- The need to train
- Statutory requirements
- Rated capacity and instability
- Operator safety Code
- Safety film
- Theory test
Pre- Operational check:
- Checking if the machine is safe to operate
Practice:
- Introduction to the machine
- Control familiarisation
- Pre-shift check
- Battery charging and maintaining
- Steering procedures
- Load handling
- Vehicle loading or unloading
- Practical test

Duration of the course depends on experience and the number of candidates.
- Novice – usually 3-5 days for beginners who have never driven a forklift before
- Refresher – 1 day for experienced operators wanting to renew their certificate
